Community Webinars

Zend is reaching out to the PHP community to expand our online webinar program! We have typically done webinars with Zend subject matter experts, Zend partners and occasionally with someone who just has a good idea. But it is clear that there is a lot of good content out there from folks that are not in that list of typical presenters. So what we want to give community members, who are really just people who use PHP professionally, the opportunity to share their ideas and expertise with a wider audience.

If there is a webinar that you think would benefit other people, or if you have a webinar that you've done before that you would like to give to our online audience, please tell us about it by either messaging me via Twitter (@kpschrade) or emailing me (kevin at zend dot com - like that'll help with spam) with a link to the slides that you want to see (or present yourself).

Then, after I have reviewed the content and contacted the author to see if they are interested, I will create a page for it on this website. You can then vote for that webinar simply by retweeting it via the "retweet" link. The more tweets I get for an individual talk, the higher up in priority it will be. The retweet count will not be the primary means of determining priority, but it will be significant factor.

You might be wondering what kind of exposure you could get.

  1. Promotion in our newsletter - If we are able to accommodate it given timing, space, etc., the webinar would be highlighted in our monthly newsletter.
  2. Possibly thousands of views - Webinars, even if they are lightly attended, have a long tail of viewership. In other words, even if only 50 people attend the live webinar it may be seen many more times because we record all of the webinars and make them available on our site.
  3. Promotion on our Facebook Page - Both for the webinar and also when the recording is made available.

Questions... now with answers!

  1. Do I need to ask permission from the author before I nominate their talk?
    • No, but I'm sure they would appreciate it if you contacted them first
  2. Does it have to have been presented before I nominate it?
    • Yes, though it doesn't have to have been at a conference. A user group is fine too. But presenting to your dog is not sufficient.
    • Exceptions can be made if the person submitting has done several presentations before and has shown themselves to be able to present to our audience
  3. Does it have to be about Zend products?
    • Not directly. But it should be something related to PHP... 'cause... we do stuff with PHP

The Contenders!
